Beginning Sewing Workshop

Wednesdays: March 5, 12, and 19

9:30am-12:30pm

Class Instructor: Susan Hunter

 

Students will learn a wealth of information such as proper cutting techniques, measuring, different fabrics and equipment. On March 5 you will make an apron. The March 12 class will add more techniques and incorporate working with batting by make two microwave bowl cozies. On March 19 you will make an adorable zippered crossbody purse and learn more skills such as adding a zipper, working with fusible interfacing, and more advanced cutting. Please see supplies to bring to class below.

BASIC SUPPLIES

Scissors, pins, 45 mm rotary cutter. Susan recommends the Olfa Splash rotary cutter due to easy changing of blades. See photo in photo gallery.

 

Apron Supplies (March 5)

--One full yard 100% cotton fabric.

--Matching all-purpose thread.

 

Microwave Bowl Cozy Supplies (March 12)

Makes 2 bowls. Batting will be provided by instructor.

--1/3 yard 100% cotton fabric OR 1/3 yard of 2 different coordinating fabrics. 

--100% cotton all-purpose thread.  (Thread MUST be 100% cotton for this project.)

 

Zippered Crossbody Purse Supplies
(March 19)

--Two coordinating fat quarters of 100% cotton.  Each fat quarter measures 18" x 22".

OR 1/2 yard of 2 coordinating 100% cotton fabrics.

--One 12" or longer polyester all-purpose zipper.  You will sew over zipper teeth, so do NOT use a metal zipper.

--1/4 yard of Pellon 987 fusible fleece. (Please bring only Pellon 987F)

--Matching all-purpose thread.

SEWING MACHINES

Each student must have their own machine during class. The ARC does have machines available for use if you do not own one. We encourage you to bring in your own sewing machine as you will be more familiar with it. lease make sure it is in good working order prior to class.
